Welcome to my apartment
ME
Hello! I am a filmmaker and ten-year Brooklyn resident originally from Chicago.
I am a fan of mood lighting, vinyl, and David Lynch. I make a mean umami-packed vegetarian taco.
The Building
The entrance to my apartment building is on the ground floor, through the gate and under the stairs. The big heavy black metal door gets you inside.
In most cases I will greet you and show you around. If I am unable to, I will share the self check in link and we can meet whenever I come home.
The many doors
After that door, there are three more doors until you’re in the apartment. A white door, and a dark wood door gets you to the door to my unit. Please close these doors but do not lock them.
I repeat, do not lock them.
Once you’re bathed in Christmas lights and surrounded by shoes, you’re in front of the entrance to the unit: another dark wood door with a one on it. I don’t lock this door, either. It’s just me and the three ladies who live in the building, and we all cook for each other.
Once you’re inside, your room is to the left just through the door.
The Room
Your room is filled with lighting including a string of Christmas lights that plug (no switch). The light switch controls the over head light and fan. There’s a space heater in the winter if needed and AC in the summer. During the hottest months my AC and your AC cool the middle of the apartment.
Common Space
The joy of my apartment is mood lighting. It is filled with all kinds of great lamps and lighting. Avoid the light switches except the one next to the pot rack. That is for the over counter fixtures.
There is a somewhat complex garbage and recycling situation. Under the kitchen sink is for paper. Next to the sink is garbage. The white bag. And I apologize. I meant to take it out before I left. The blue bag is for recycling. In the fridge is a bowl for compost (all organic materials). Help yourself to coffee (either the stovetop moka maker, if you know how to use it, or the Keurig).
My room is across from the bathroom. I usually leave my door open so some daylight comes into the aprtment
The Bathroom
In the bathroom the light switch is good for more illumination but if you want a moodier situation, there’s a switch above the wall fixture for more Christmas lights.
The knob for the shower looks like you can twist it. Don’t twist it. Push it up and push it left for hot and right for cold. If you twist it it will fall off
After showering, please squeegee off excess water from the wall (to prevent mold).
The Yard
If you want to go outside, the key sits in a dish in the back hallway. The inside door I keep unlocked. The outside door you have to pull towards you to lock and unlock it.
Getting outside
The inside (white) door I keep unlocked. The outside (black) door you have to pull towards you to lock and unlock it. Please keep it locked when no one is here.
Key Return
If I’m not here (or sleeping) when you leave, please lock the door from the outside and drop the keys into the mail slot above the door to the left.
